Producing this Chronicle of Watchfield fulfils a childhood promise to myself. For as long as I can remember I have always had the intention to try and make sense of what I could see all around me. The inspiration for this effort was to leave a legacy in the form of a starting point for future generations to follow on the history of the village whence I derived my birth and infant nurture. I have published the book on the internet and it’s free for all to read at www.neil-maw.co.uk/watchfield.chronicle The cost of putting it online is negligible and is simplicity itself to update in the event of discovering further material. At the request of some I have also printed several hard copies which those people may keep or pass to others as they see fit. The cost of this is considerable when compared to online and even more expensive when it comes to re-printing. Therefore, whereas I can guarantee to update the online book fairly frequently, I can make no such promise with the hard copies.
There will be readers who I’m sure will have memories, stories and even photos of Watchfield. I have talked to several who do indeed have such things tucked away, if only they could get around to digging them out.
